I’ve never actually gone from one book right into the next before. This time, though I ended up doing just that.

Normally, I love to bask in the “end of book honeymoon” for a couple months. I get giddy thinking about my story. Sometimes I even read through passages and just enjoy the story.

Plus, of course, I have to start thinking about the marketing part and the back end of production. I'm picking a cover and talking with my editor. All the non-writing things! It gives me a little time to love on my characters more and write up my thank yous for the end of the book.

This time, I already had an idea for the next book. When I got my hair cut over the summer, my hairdresser started telling me about something funny that had been happening in her shop. Sometimes the lights would flicker. Sometimes the music would flip on. Sometimes, it just felt like someone was there, even when she was alone. At night. And it was dark out.

It sounds like the perfect making for a Halloween story, but there was more to it than just something spooky.

As it turns out, other shopkeepers on the street have had similar experiences. When she had spoken with one of the other owners, they said that the story had been passed down over the decades that the little disturbances were from the spirits of those who passed in the theater disaster.

When I got home, of course, I googled it. I discovered that on that same street, in the early 1900s, there actually was a disaster in a theater that is no longer there. But the building remains. And aparently, so do some of the victims. The disaster happened when someone saw a flash and assumed there was a fire. Everyone tried to run from the building, and many people were trampled in the stairwell.

I don't normally fixate on disasters like this, but I had so many ideas about those who were gone trying to communicate something to those of us who are here today. What would they say? What do they need us to know? Or fix?

Obviously, I was super wrapped up in Good in Theory and loving it! So I jotted down some notes and left it for January. Which is now!

So far, I'm about halfway through the outline. I've worked out most of the story of what the souls are trying to communicate, but I am still figuring out Morgan's story. Morgan happens to be Lacey's sister, so she is mentioned in Good in Theory. I'm excited to finish that outline and figure out what's up so I can write her story!

In the coming months, I'm going to share some other authors with you whose books you might enjoy. I recently joined a group of writers who do women's fiction, historic fiction, and other related genres, and we want to help our readers find more books that they would love!
